NSM Foreign Language Requirement for Undergraduates
All students wishing to fulfill NSM departmental majors must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language at the intermediate level. Students who have not satisfied the Foreign Language requirement upon admission to the College should select a foreign language course each term in residence until the requirement has been satisfied. The University offers sequences that satisfy this requirement in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. General Education Requirements for Undergraduates
The general education requirements for UMass Amherst are available at the Registrar's Office, and are also listed in the General Education Requirements PDF. These requirements are standard for all undergraduates majors at UMass Amherst. For specific course requirements for individual degree programs within NSM, visit each of our departments listed above.
Courses Outside of NSM (B.A. Students)
In addition to the General Education requirements, completion of two 3-credit courses from the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and/or the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. These courses may not be elected pass/fail.
Total Science Credits (B.S. Students)
Completion of a minimum of 60 credits from courses in NSM or the Department of Psychology, or from courses carrying the "BS" or "PS" General Education designation (e.g., MicBio 160, ExSci 100).
