NSM undergraduates engage in independent research: the Biology Department alone has 100 undergraduate researchers in its labs each semester. In the past decade, NSM students have co-authored more than 100 published papers. NSM sponsors internship and co-op opportunities at major corporations, research centers, and governmental agencies.
NSM attracts 722 graduate students (613 of whom are working towards doctorates), and 100 postdoctoral researchers. The College awards more than one quarter of UMass Amherst's Ph.D.s
