Renewable Energy Initiative

Sunlight, water, earth, plants, bacteria—these everyday resources will provide the fuels of the future. Renewable energy research in NSM focuses on four areas: solar energy, hydrogen fuel generation, biofuel conversion, and geothermal energy. NSM scientists are developing more efficient and cost-effective solutions for solar energy conversion using polymer coated surfaces, conversion of agricultural and forestry plant material into ethanol, and engineering new fuels and electricity alternatives.
