- Center for Geometry, Analysis, Numerics and Graphics (GANG) Computes, visualizes and experiments with geometric objects.
- Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) Develops tools for effective and efficient access to large networks of heterogeneous, multimedia information.
- Center for Knowledge Communications (CKC) Develops advanced computational and artificial intelligence techniques for teaching and learning systems.
- Climate Systems Research Center (CSRS) Focuses on climate system and variability and global change using contemporary, paleoclimatic, and paleoenvironmental data.
- Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) Focuses on fundamental research for improvement of harvesting solar energy as electricity using organic and organic/inorganic-hybrid polymers and materials.
- Fueling the Future Center for Chemical Innovation (CCI) Focuses on research that addresses fundamental aspects of proton transport to design better fuel cell membranes.
- Massachusetts Center for Renewable Science and Technology (MassCREST) Generate efficient solar and fuel cells, produces hydrogen from water, and develops catalysts that convert biomass to hydrocarbon fuel and biofuels.
- Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) 34 faculty dedicated to interdisciplinary education and research in polymer science.
- Scientific Reasoning Research Institute (SRRI) Conducts and applies research on reasoning and cognitive processes to improve science and mathematics education.
- Natural History Collections and Museum Houses more than 300,000 specimens of mammals, birds, invertebrates, plants, fishes, reptiles and amphibians.

- Commonwealth Alliance for Information Technology Education (CAITE) Designs and executes comprehensive programs that address under representation in information technology education and the workforce.

- Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) NSM-Mexico project for world’s largest single dish telescope operating at millimeter wavelengths.
- MassNanoTech Coordinates research on nanoscale materials, devices and systems, advances commercialization and industry partnerships, and fosters education and outreach.
- Pioneer Valley Life Science Institute UMass Amherst/ Baystate Medical Center partnership connects interdisciplinary biomedical research teams of life and physical scientists, engineers, and physicians.
